"When in Rome"

I am not sure where to start with this blog entry so much has happened these past couple weeks! First off I went to Italy for Spring break with 11 other students for a class called “Secrets of Italy”…I had the time of my life, I have friends (you know who you are) who have always explained to me interesting stories about Europe and after going it has completely brought those stories to life. I got to visit three cities, Florence, Assisi, and of course ancient Rome. I enjoyed them all but my favorite was Assisi. Florence was a lot of fun; we went to the Academy where we got to see the Michelangelo’s statue of the “David”. I have studied about it in class but seeing it made me appreciate Michelangelo’s craftsmanship, no I should say pure genius so much more! We didn’t stay in Florence for long just one day and then we headed to Assissi, where St. Francis of Assissi’s cathedral was built. As we entered the cathedral there was such a feeling of sacredness to be felt if one can “feel” sacred…..as we waked through the quiet and quaint city of Assisi one couldn’t help but stop and take in the art that was just randomly placed on the street walls as the vines started to wrap themselves around it almost like a movie set, but better. Then it was off to Rome where we spent most of our time. Oh ya and I just can’t talk enough about the Gellataria’s(ice cream), I think we had two a day! It was very delicious, a lot lighter then our ice cream here and the cappuccino’s (which come from the Italian capuchin Monks) are out of this world. There a lot smaller then our American Cappuccinos but twice as potent.

I really liked the Coliseum actually it was my most favorite thing in Rome. I pictured myself watching the Gladiators fighting and listening to the scattered audience cheering them on. We also got to visit the Vatican and the Sistine Chapel of course. We also went to St. Peters Basilica the largest church in the world! On a side note, every one has to go to the Vatican City! On the last day that we were there we had a free day! It was a blat all the girls went and shopped around Rome. I swear we walked about 50 miles, Rome is huge! The city reminded me a lot of New York, except you walked down the street and BAM there was something old and amazing! Over all my trip was great I could sit here and write on and on about it but until you go and experience it for your self my words are useless, you just gotta go!
